The Backstory

Hey what’s up, guys! I’m Don Roberts and I’m the creator of Pixelseek.

The Flashback

I got my start in the “Arts” when I was just 12 years old. But it wasn’t in the visual arts back then, it was the musical arts.
My dream had always been to write music for film, TV, and especially games. Unfortunately, that never happened for me.
I spent many years in and out of bands and creating royalty-free stock music on my own. 12 years of my life was also spent teaching guitar and music theory in one-on-one private lessons. I had hundreds of students over the course of 12 years, and I always loved the opportunity to share my passion and knowledge with other people.

The Pivot

Then, nearly 20 years later, I realized that my passion for music was starting to fade.
I no longer loved to create or play music anymore. It was a very confusing couple of years for me. For the first time in my entire life, I had NO IDEA what I wanted to do anymore.
Should I continue to pursue music because it was what I had always known and what I was actually good at?
Or should I try something completely different? I decided to try exploring other fields.
I knew I wanted to be in the “creative arts” in some way because that’s just who I am. Over the course of about a year I tried many different avenues of graphic design and visual arts. After falling in love with a Polygon Runway tutorial on YouTube, I finally knew that 3D was the right direction for me.
I soon engulfed myself in 3D art related hashtags on Instagram everyday for inspiration in my own art journey.

The Birth of Pixelseek

The name, Pixelseek, started soon after as a 3D art re-posting account on Instagram back in July, 2020. I figured that since I was digging through hundreds of 3D artworks everyday anyway, I may as well re-post my favorites while I was at it.
I soon got to know so many great artists through this account, something I never expected from a re-post account.

The Future

Between doing regular art reviews on Instagram and genuinely getting to know artists in the community, positive feedback started coming in saying how Pixelseek was doing great things for the art community. With a background in teaching, I have always felt that Pixelseek could be used in a way to encourage, educate, and empower artists.
And now I want to share my love of 3D art and teaching with you!
Thanks for following along and being a part of this amazing community!
