Did you know that you can move around in Blender like a first-person style game? It’s called walk mode and you can move around in Blender with the WASD keys! Here’s how to do it!

How To Enable Walk Mode in Blender

If you’re wanting to try out Blender WASD movement, it’s really easy to enable! Just hit SHIFT and Tilde, which is that little squiggly-line key just below ESC.

To navigate, just press:

  • W – Forward
  • A – Left
  • S – Backward
  • D – Right
  • Q – Down
  • E – Up
  • Shift – Move Faster

When you’re all done moving, just left click and you can start editing.

This is a really fun way to move around, and I think it’s going to feel most comfortable with gamers, because they are already used to this WASD style of movement.

How To Enable Blender WASD Movement

Just so you know, there are actually two different WASD modes. Walk mode, and Fly mode. Walk mode should be enabled by default, but we can always check in the Blender Preferences.

In my opinion, walk mode is better because fly mode felt a bit like slipping around on ice. If you feel like you cant stop when you’re moving, check to see which mode is enabled.

Go to Edit > Preferences. Go to the Navigation tab on the left, under the “Fly & Walk” section, make sure Walk mode is selected, and not Fly mode.

Going into the menu isn’t something you have to do every time. Just open it once to check which mode you’re in, then you can forget about it.

And that’s it! WASD movement in Blender is a fun way to move around, but also a natural way to move around if you’re a gamer. It’s also a great way to move around if you’re on a laptop, without a mouse.
